Ellen Matilda Allnatt (1824—1906) was was born on 28 October 1824 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, the third daughter of Charles Blake Allnatt and Elizabeth Sophia Möller. On 18 August 1850 she married Colonel Thomas Henry Salt in Calcutta, Bengal, India. Their son, Henry Salt, was born 20 September 1851. Ellen returned to England with Henry in the spring of 1852. Their second child, Ellen Maude Elizabeth Salt, was born in December 1852 but died in March 1855. Ellen kept a diary of principle events in her life.. She died on 28 June 1906 in Tonbridge, Kent.
