About

The Henry S. Salt Society is dedicated to the appreciation of the life and work of the author and social reformer Henry Salt. This site provides a brief introduction to all aspects of Salt’s life, including his writings, campaign work, influences, family and his circle of friends. Similarly we have sections dedicated to Salt’s close friends and fellow activists Ernest Bell and James Leigh Joynes.

The Society encourages more studies of Henry Salt and the Humanitarian League and via our Archive we will assist students and scholars in their research whenever possible. In addition we are undertaking our own research into missing aspects of Salt’s life and work.

We welcome and encourage anyone interested in this project to contribute.

Anyone wanting to know more about Salt should start by reading George Hendrick’s Henry Salt: Humanitarian Reformer and Man of Letters and The Savour of Salt: A Henry Salt Anthology edited by George and Willene Hendrick.
